Dr. James Aronson Celebrates Four Decades of Exploration and Work in Applied Botany & Restoration Ecology

    ST. LOUIS, MO, October 03, 2017 — James Aronson has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. Backed by nearly 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Aronson serves as a senior scientist with Missouri Botanical Garden’s Center for Conservation and Sustainable Development, Editor-in-chief of the “Science and Practice of Ecological Restoration” Book Series (published by Island Press and the Society for Ecological Restoration), Representative-at-large for the Society of Ecological Restoration, and coordinator of the Restoring Natural Capital Alliance. Previously, he worked for 25 years as a restoration ecologist at the Center for Functional and Evolutionary Ecology, of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), in Montpellier, France. He has participated in or advised on ecological restoration and rehabilitation projects and policy in many countries in Latin America, Africa, Europe, North America, and the Middle East, and served as consultant or advisor to various U.N. Conventions and Agencies. Dr. Aronson holds a Bachelor of Science from Washington University in St. Louis, and a PhD in plant ecology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Throughout his lengthy career, Dr. Aronson has co-authored or edited creative works and widely used textbooks such as “Biology and Wildlife of the Mediterranean Region,” “Ecological Restoration: Principles, Values, and Structure of an Emerging Profession”, “Restoration Ecology: The New Frontier” and “Restoring Natural Capital – Science, Business, and Practice”. He has won several awards for his work in the field, including the Society of Ecological Restoration’s Award for Communications in Restoration Ecology. He continues to travel widely and participate in interdisciplinary teams addressing issues where conservation, human health and well-being, economics, sustainability, and ecological restoration and rehabilitation are all addressed and integrated.
