Cougar Global Investments Appoints Abdullah “Abe” Sheikh Head Of Research

TORONTO and ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 3, 2017 () — Cougar Global Investments, a globally-oriented solutions-focused asset manager and affiliate of Carillon Tower Advisers, is pleased to announce that Abdullah “Abe” Sheikh, FSA, MAAA, has joined the firm as head of research.  Sheikh will provide enhanced analytics and additional quantitative-research capabilities as part of the Cougar Global investment team.

Cougar Global employs a disciplined portfolio-construction methodology which combines macroeconomic analysis with downside-risk management.  Cougar Global’s guiding belief is that the goal of investing is to generate consistent compound growth, primarily achieved by seeking to minimize loss.

“Abe is a perfect fit for us,” said Dr. James Breech, president & CEO, CIO.  “His expertise in statistical analysis, quantitative modeling and research supports our unique portfolio-construction discipline and philosophy.  Abe will be instrumental in Cougar Global’s growth,” Breech added.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to expand on the leading-edge research that is embedded in Cougar Global’s overarching investment strategy,” said Abe Sheikh.

Sheikh previously worked for 11 years as vice president of capital-markets research and portfolio management as well as director of quantitative research at J.P. Morgan Asset Management.  Prior to joining J.P. Morgan Asset Management, he was an analyst for four years at Watson Wyatt Worldwide.  Sheikh earned a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a master’s in computational finance from Carnegie Mellon University.  He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

“Abe is a unique talent with a solid record of partnering with clients that fits well with our client-focused, collaborative culture,” added Cooper Abbott, president of Carillon Tower.  “Supporting Cougar Global and our affiliates is Carillon Tower’s most important function.  Providing our high-quality portfolio managers with the resources they need allows them to focus on what they do best for clients: managing portfolios.  We are pleased to have Abe on our team,” he added.
