How This 12-Year Old Wowed NYC With His “Pay It Forward” Movement For the Homeless

FORT MYERS, FL – 07-20-2018 — Alex Cameron is launching his own “Pay it Forward” movement across the US and his first stop was downtown Manhattan.

Alex, whose father is national recording artist and violinist Doug Cameron, is a childprodigy violinist from Naples, FL. He had been invited to perform with The Honors Orchestra in Carnegie Hall this summer. When Alex arrived in Manhattan, he was stunned to see so many homeless people on the streets.

He quickly came up with the “Pay it Forward” idea and with his dad’s help, he sprang into action. Inspired by Drake’s video for his song “God’s Plan”, Alex decided to share his talent on the streets of New York, a practice known as “busking”.

From the moment that Alex opened his violin case and began to play, money literally poured into his violin case. Alex busked literally all over New York, collecting hundreds of dollars within hours.

Hoping to inspire people all around the world to use their own gifts to “Pay it Forward”, Alex and his father shot video capturing the experience. Alex took every single penny that he collected and then gave it to homeless people he encountered.

“I loved doing this”, says Alex. “I’ll never forget the look on peoples faces when I handed them the money.” The video has already touched thousands of people including renowned jazz recording artist Dave Koz, who actually played Alex’s song on his July 15th Watercolors radio program. Says Dave, “Such an awesome message, and he’s WONDERFUL on that violin. Wonder where he got THAT from?!

Alex hopes this video, which is well on its way to becoming viral with already more than 345 shares, will inspire people to join him in this Pay It Forward movement. Alex performs with his father as part of Cobalt and Cameron so his goal is to bring this Pay It Forward movement to cities all over the country. To see the joy on this 12-year old’s face as he hands stacks of dollar bills to the homeless will bring tears to your eyes. To see the surprise and sheer gratitude on the faces of those who received it is a powerful reminder that no one is too small to make a big impact on someone else’s life and that it’s never to early (or too late) to find your own special way to Pay It Forward.
